Horrible day!

Worst day in ages. Best part of it is that I didn't quit while I got back a bit (to -3 buy-ins). Anyway after 1800 hands and -5.5 buy-ins, I decided that I'm too tired to keep on playing and it just seems I'm going down and down. At least I can say with pure heart that at least 3-4 buy-ins of that was just downswing, my kings ran into aces a couple of times and my AKs couldn't held up against total loonies AJo, even when I flopped a flushdraw and no jack. I didn't make many questionable moves today so I didn't do much tilting. Still, too bad. I hope to pick up some wind under my wings in the weekend, but we'll see how it goes.

Anyway, I'm back exactly $1000 now. There are a few possibilities to go from here, I probably try out some small session tomorrow, if it goes good, I will keep playing tomorrow and sunday. If it goes bad, I might try nutpeddling Omaha or quit poker all together for the weekend. It really looks like it's going to be a down week (Which wouldn't be so true if I hadn't played those wreched SNGs).

I won't stop concentrating on cashgames though, usually this makes me want to make the shift over to SNGs and stuff - I try to stay with NL Hold'em or Omaha cashgames. Omaha is always easier when running bad, although swings are bigger there, it's less reading people more playing the cards on the low limits so I won't be "making bad moves". Anyway, until next time :)

[Update] Saving sessions... Well I decided to go to nutpeddle some Pot Limit Omaha and it worked out fine. I had one full ring NL table open and one Pot Limit Hold'em table for a while, but those just added my loss ratio. I lost a little at Omaha too at first, but soon hit a veeery nice run, hitting massive flops and getting paid off huge - in the end, I think I got over $150 profit out of them - which nets $100 of this session as I lost about $50 in Hold'em games... Yeah, suuucks. I did flop monsters though, but apparently guy calling a raise and a reraise preflop with 87o can infact outdraw set of kings.

Here's my list of top 5 losers of the day:
1. KK -$106.05 (Ran into aces or got outdrawn by lower pairs)
2. AKs -$70.20 (This was kinda because of the loonie who outdrew me with AJ)
3. AJs -$61.55 (Lost biggish pot to turned 3-outer and two pair to rivered flush)
4. AKo -$45.30 (I seriously have to stop putting low stacks all-in with this)
5. QQ -$41.15 (I reraise guy with A6o on 332 flop, he feels it's necessary to catch the ace on turn)

Mmmmyea, these are the quality hands that earned me my loses today. Not to make it sound like whine, here's top 5 winners:
1. AJo +$66.45 (Won with trip jacks against tilting guy with ten high, and also a few top pair hands)
2. 99 +$57.35 (Four words: Nines full x2)
3. QJs +$46.20 (Don't play KK like this guy did)

5. TT +$39.60 (One set of tens, also lost one pot without which this would be #3)

Yea so the losses were bigger than the big wins. I had some potential situations today, but it just didn't work out - nobody flopped anything when I had sets mostly (I had like all my few weeks sets today...) and I didnt get paid off big - I did get called with low pair no kicker though when I was c-betting missed AK on two streets. ^^ Monster reads.

Anyway, I feel a lot better now and I don't have to cry myself to sleep. I will try to get more in the game tomorrow, now it's late, i'm exhausted and feeling okay. Good night people, good night!

Late at night...

Yea so I wrote a long post and my comp crashed at the end of it. Basically my sessions have been concentrating on the nights now since days are just too bright and nice outside to playing poker all the time. Also school has been keeping me occupied for quite a while now. Winter passed over night and you can go outside in a t-shirt with piles of snow still existing here and there. It's pretty sweet.

So to the point, yesterday I had a +1 buy-in cashgame session after losing to turbos. In fact, I'd be very nicely up for the week if I hadn't played the SNGs, but well, I think I played okay so there's no point in being result oriented about that. Today I had +2 buy-in cashgame session - I started with -2 buy-ins with the combination of bad luck and bad play, but cards started hitting and although I know I wasn't playing to my full potential, I still managed to squeeze out a profit of nearly two buy-ins, averaging almost 10 PTBB/100. Sweet. So, one more of these sessions and I'll be back where I was on monday roofles. I did trade away some money and also spend it though, so it hasn't all been downfall for me, but most money was lost at the Sit'n'goes, both $6.5 and $22 alike. I have found a new interest in cashgame again, at some point they felt a bit dull, and that throve me to playing SNGs and stuff, but now I feel like I am improving and understanding the cashgame aspects more deeply so it should be fun to pay some attention to that too.

I don't know how much time I'll have to play in the coming days/weeks, hopefully enough to reach NL100 by the beginning of the summerjob (which is late may/beginning of june). Would be fun - either way, after the "summer" starts, I will have more time to play and don't have to stress about endless exams. Also the weathers will be nice so I intend to actually chill and just lay back in the sunshine for the summer. Last summer when I begun playing poker, some of my sessions were like 14 hours long, I think this summer, I'll concentrate on the quality instead of amount as my obsession is turning into well controlled profession. <3

Turbos are fun!

Yea so I figured I'd try out a challenge kinda game session where I start with low buy-in turbos and when ever I win, I play one higher buy-in with the victory money. When I get second, I regame a match of that stakes. Well. Idea was good, but my luck today didn't like it. I think I broke all my previous overpair vs undercards/underpair pf all-in record I've ever done. None of my hands held up, pushing all-in with nutflush, drying to either boat or straightflush. ^^

But enuf, whining, the final score was:
1 victory
18 out-of-money

Needless to say, I'll never touch turbos again. I'll probably take break from tournamentpoker too as It has cost me like $200 to $300 in the last few days. A well. Can't win them all. I'm currently a bit below $1200 again, go SNG variance GO! I don't really feel even pissed, it was just so sad. And majority of times I did the correct moves anyway, so I think on the average, I would end up like... $200 of these sessions lol...

$22 SnGs

I think I shouldn't play these yet. I feel a bit uncomfortable losing many in a row as it really seems to hurt although it's not big deal. I lost about 6 buy-ins straightup, 1 of them being from two 6-max $13 sngs. I caught one third place, then another third place and finally one second place. I went into final HU 2.5-to-1 chiplead, even got it to like 3.5-to-1, but then I lost some preflop raised pots and finally doubled him when I flopped open-ender with overcard and backdoorflushdraw. He flopped top pair king kicker and a higher backdoorflushdraw and the backdoor flush draw got there. Personally I would've loved to hit my straight and no flush would've came. After that I just got ravaged. Next to last hand was when flop came A66 and he wasn't convinced I had ace when I reraised him. He pushed and I couldn't call and he showed QQ. Well played by him.

I'm playing one SnG as I'm playing this. This is the last one for the session, win or lose. If I win the whole thing, I think I'm about even for the day. If I don't make it to the money, I'm down total of about 5 buy-ins. Either way, this is the second losing session in these semi-nightly ones after doing lots of school work the whole day. I think I'm a bit tired, but I also think these might be a bit out of my comfort zone and thus, I'll concentrate on playing NL50 since I've developed my game there a lot recently. As for SNGs, I think I'll keep to the $11 ones until I have enough roll to move up a level. So it's $11 and NL50 for me until $2k. I might have busy day tomorrow so there won't be much gamin' then.

Heh I had to add this. The last one ended up being a mess. I almost died, first hand I played really was TT, I reraised a raiser all-in. He thought for very long time and called with AQs. Of course I lost but I was left with 80 chips. Blinds were 50/100 and I forcedly went all-in from BB with AKo, I doubled. The very next hand I doubled from SB with K4o vs JJ, and doubled a few more times and I was actually back in the hunt. Never big stack, actually lowest or second lowest for long time. It went into the bubble and it was a PAIN. There were like 10000000 all-ins, some of which were mine. Big stack with AA vs low stack with 99, low stack gets 9 etc. It just never seemed to end. Finally I went all-in with flush draw against top pair and didn't get there... I think that was a misstep though. I was BB with 78s and SB minraised, I called, flop KJx, he pushed right away. The pot was 800 +1300 chips or so I figured it was as good as any to double up or die as I'd have nice stack if I won. Well his KQ held up and I'm out. But it was mad - I got so good cards for a while, I thought it was destined to be! Too bad...

An Hour Late, A Dollar Short

Alrighty, so I had a GOOOD session of about 700 hands today. Not too long, but this is how I try to keep it to play my absolute best for all times. Today it really seemed to work and I caught a bunch of good cards at good times. I won a lots of blinds with AA, a few of the bigger pots came with KK. Besides that, I won a few all-ins with players doing either bad bluffs or valuebetting their worse hands.

At best, I was up nearly 5 stacks, but after getting beat out of a few pots, I was up at 4 buy-ins and decided to call it a session. I won a lot of pots with continuation bets as well as firing the second barrel on turn. Lots of raising against weak bets also earned me many pots with virtually nothing or something very little on flops.

I had one hand I feel quite uncertain of and I posted it at LiquidPoker.net Hand Discussion forum. I feel I played the hand a bit weakly at points (flop, maybe turn), but I feel it wasn't horrible either. So get over there and give some feedback on what you think.

On a sidenote, I've loosened my image some. I think I'd be rated as SLAA or LAG right now as I started to abuse position more and more, inspired by some random publications. *snork*

It's not all roses and sunshine though - yesterday night I played, being a bit tired, some sngs. Granted I had some horrible luck, but I did a couple of abismal plays too and ended up bubbling in 4/5 - Heh. Gosuness. And I was second in the heads up match in the 5th. Luckily enough, some of them were only $11 and I ended up down total 3 stacks in $22. Not bad. I added up two $10.5 HU matches, as well as one Omaha Hi/Lo $5.25 HU. I won the omaha one and lost both Hold'em ones. One was actually quite funny, I lost K7 to K8 with the kicker on AKKxx board.

Had a 3-tabling session of about an hour or so, maybe a bit longer. I hit some good hands, made some plays and as far as I'm concerned, correct decisions. My thoughts were that he probably has JT or a flush draw, king being the worst card in the deck for me. I could get paid of by an ace, but I couldn't call too big of a raise on that kind of board, so I decided to play it safe. I won't post the result yet, before I getting some feedback on the check.

I exploited similar weak bet = weak hand => reraise strategy on other table as well. This one had bought in for full stack and I had no doubt he could laydown something like unimproved AK (surprisingly many can't).

It's ridiculous how much of these weak bets players do and you can often take them down by raising with nothing. Generally I want to have outs, even if they do call me. If they raise, it's usually quite easy fold. Calling would give them freecard and there's no need to let them have the initiative in the hand, especially if you are fairly confident that you can take the pot down, while it's still small. Bluffing big pots at these limits generally ends up in tears.

Okay so here's why I did it. a) he was minraising pretty much every hand. He minraised preflop, he minbet flop, he minbet turn and he minbet river. Rarely he bet more and when he did, I happened to have a hand, raised and he folded. He was doing pretty well with this strategy. In fact, some of the players folded to his minbets on the river on like $5 pots, getting 10-to-1. I guess those were draws, but c'mon. My overbet was mainly to a) show him that don't minraise if you don't wanna play and perhaps, give me a bit of a loose-cannon image as many of the short stacks had died away from the table. b) Get a call from a hand that I can beat. I doubt he had AA/KK, and otherwise, I'm coinflip at worst. I figured I could get call from a bad ace as he was playing a lot of hands, making lots of bad calls (like calling me down with 32 on AJ873 board). So I made huge overbet knowing that it might do bad for my value as in not getting the maximum out of it. But I did.

Yea so this is not what I do, I very rarely do it and I wasn't expecting a call. Gooood image for meh. Anyway, the session was shortish and I didn't have much room to make mistakes as I wasn't in many uncomfortable situations. I made a few good reads in my opinion and raked a nice deal of decent sized pots. I did stack some small stacks with hands like TPTK+flushdraw against their TPbaaaaaadK and it ended up working fine.

Yesterday, I played a few SnGs, ending up something like $20-$30 up from those in the end (couple of $22 ones and the rest $11 ones. I was OOM in most, won one of the $22 ones).


I might play more Sngs today, but I have other stuff to do so I might not. I wish I could say I want to get to uncomfortable situations in hands that are more debatable, but I'm fine with this too. I think overall I managed to avoid those situations to the best I could and not overplaying bad or marginal hands.

So I decided to play some today. I only played a bit over 500 hands and I'm planning on playing SNGs for the rest of the day. I ended up only $17.30, which averages 3.43 PTBB/100. Not too good, but I'm not disappointed either as I did mostly correct decisions. Don't know if this one is easy call generally, but a) Steve_beef was a huge fish and b) I figured he would've probably raised me on flop with 9x or better. I could see him just calling with low pair, but I think 7x is a lot more probable here. I think this c-bet was very bad on my part. I realized it after betting, with two callers preflop, it's preeeetty likely at least one of them has an ace. By picking hands, however, I would probably end up throwing some misplayed hands away. I hand-edited this one and it was so much work, I will not do it again this way. :D

Maybe I could write a parser that would post the hands in a format similar to 2+2 and the preflop folded hands to something like:
Folded Kh Tc after limp and raise in MP.

But I dunno how much writing that would require so I will post single hands from now on. I hope there was something in there to comment on. <3

Vindication Baby!

Hi there!

I just started this new blog. Basically my idea is to make a different blog for my online roll as Pathological Case is turning into somewhat my personal blog. I will still post livegames and a bit more personal stuff there.

For this blog, I took another approach. First of all, those who have read my blog, know that my "career" has been a rollercoaster. I originally started with $6 about a year ago and I've managed to grind it out to something like $3000, most of which I've cashed out in several occasions. I played Fixed Limit most of the time, but I've been making a transition into No Limit. I currently play NL50 properly rolled.

Second, this one will concentrate mainly on my roll building project. My goal for the entire year is to make it to NL400. Basically, with 30 buy-ins as I want to be safe and secure (Also one of the things that people might probably know about me is that I'm a bankroll-management enthusiast). So... 30 buy-ins for NL400 is $12000, so I round it to $10000 to be exact. In fact, this was my goal last year when starting out poker, playing Limit - not to get to NL400, but to get to around $10k. I quickly learned that I had a lot to learn about the game AND of the emotions involved with the game.

In the beginning I was pretty open about my bankroll - at some point, I changed it to not talking about it for a while, mainly because I was doing really really good. Now I'm going to open up about it again. Basically what I'm here to do is, track my process of climbing up towards the goal, but also Posting some hands I think are interesting (No. This doesn't include bad beats. In fact, I'm still on a bad beat embargo - meaning I won't post any bad beats anywhere. It used to be a bad habit of mine and I've gotten rid of it, excluding occasional bitchin' but that doesn't include the use of PokerHand.org).

I hope I can get some feedback from those who find this process interesting. I will concentrate on analysis on my style and play and I will make (at least) weekly updates on how I'm doing. So here's the initial place to start with:

Current Date: 2006-04-20 (Thu)
Current Bankroll: $1165
Current Stakes: NL50/23 buy-ins
Moving up at: $2000/20 buy-ins

I will also try to be very critical about my own mistakes (which come plenty at times) and thus, many of my hands will be those which I lose or feel I misplayed - or of course, am uncertain of.

So the goal is set - I'm not going to obsess about it, but God knows I'm going to thrive for it. So from now on, my only set goal is to play non-result oriented gooood poker, hoping I will make it to my goal by the end of the year. Wish me luck!
